2013 CCMA Jiffy Lube FanFest

Calling all Manitoba Country Music Artists!

The Manitoba Country Music Association (“MCMA”) is running a contest in tandem with the Canadian Country Music Association (“CCMA”) for your chance to win a once in a lifetime opportunity to play alongside Canada’s Country Music greats this September 7 at Jiffy Lube FanFest (“FanFest”) in Edmonton, Alberta as part of Country Music Week!

How it works:

Each province has been asked to select one Country Music Artist/Act (“Act”) to represent that province in the “2013 Jiffy Lube FanFest Performance Contest” (“National Contest”).

When all ten provincial Acts from across Canada are chosen for the National Contest, these Acts would be highlighted on a Facebook poll on the CCMA Facebook page and the public would be encouraged to vote on who they want to see perform at the FanFest this year. These ten Acts must abide by the “2013 Jiffy Lube FanFest Performance CCMA Contest – OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS” - available here. This National Contest will open on July 29, 2013 and close on August 5, 2013. The winner will be announced on August 9, 2013.

Acts who are interested in representing Manitoba on this National Contest are required to email their submission (submission requirements below) to the MCMA at manitobacma@gmail.com by July 10, 2013.

Submission Requirements (to be emailed to the MCMA)

  • Two Songs (MP3 format or links)
  • Fifty-word bio
  • One Promotional Photo (JPEG Print quality)
  • Social Media Platforms (please include links to social media outlets you use (i.e., link to Facebook artist page, twitter account, website etc)

Your submissions will be juried by the MCMA and one successful Act will be selected to move on to the National Contest for their chance to win a performance spot at the Jiffy Lube FanFest during Country Music Week in Edmonton, Alberta on September 7.

What the National Contest winner receives:

In Remembrance of Brian Bergquist

In Remembrance of Brian Bergquist

The Manitoba Country Music community lost a great songwriter and friend with the passing of Brian Bergquist on May 7th 2013. Brian’s love of Western music led him in 2012 to “Bring Bob Nolan Back to Winnipeg” along with the Sons of the Pioneers.

Brian Bergquist, Western poet and songwriter (born Winnipeg, Feb. 16, 1948), fell in love with Shakespeare, Robert Service, and the word herdin' of Bob Nolan in high school. Brian pursued a career in broadcasting for over 33 years. It was upon finishing his career in Whitehorse, Yukon, that he got closer to the works of Robert Service and got serious in his writing, producing his first book of poetry and two original albums of country songs.

About 6 years ago, he attended his first Cowboy Gathering in Brandon, Manitoba, and got to share some of his Yukon material. It went over well...he had found a home. He managed to get a copy of his last CD, COWBOY COTERIE, to the Sons of the Pioneers about a year ago and they encouraged him to continue in that vein.
