CCMA Discovery Program
CALLING ALL CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC ARTISTS!
New CCMA Discovery Program Launched

The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) announced the introduction of the CCMA Discovery Program. This exciting new initiative was created by the CCMA as part of its current mandate to educate and support Canadian country music artists in pursuit of a career in country music.

This new CCMA Discovery Program will replace the traditional CCMA New Artist showcase program effective immediately.

The CCMA Discovery Program includes the following opportunities in 2013 for six (6) jury-selected Canadian acts:

1. Music Industry Discovery Week
2. Mentorship Program
3. Country Music Week Discovery Showcase
4. CCMA Discovery Award Program

Music Industry Discovery Week: The six (6) selected acts will be flown to Toronto for a week (June 16 to 21) to discover more about the music business and artist development through a wide range of opportunities.

Plans for these five intensive days include: industry-led information sessions, branding and media training, media interviews, and the opportunity to perform at a private industry showcase.

Mentorship Program: The CCMA will be linking each selected act with an established Canadian act for mentorship purposes. This program will officially start following the Music Industry Discovery Week and continue through Country Music Week in Edmonton.

Country Music Week Discovery Showcase: Taking the traditional CCMA New Artist Showcase spot on the Thursday night schedule during Country Music Week, this three hour show will put the spotlight on the six selected acts. With a full concert production, backed by a house band, each act will have the opportunity to perform in front of the music industry and fans alike.

CCMA Discovery Award Winner: During Country Music Week, one exceptional CCMA Discovery Program act will be selected by an industry jury to receive the “CCMA Discovery Award” at the CCMA Gala Dinner & Awards. The CCMA Discovery Award winner will also receive music video funding (courtesy of CMT), a Masterbilt acoustic guitar (courtesy of Epiphone Guitars), cash (courtesy of galaxie), and other industry
related prizing.

Further information regarding the CCMA Discovery Program is available online at www.ccma.org/discovery/index.cfm. The deadline for submissions to the CCMA Discovery Program 2013 is Monday, April 22.

Over the years, countless songwriters, artists, and musicians have flocked to Music City. Many arrive ill-prepared, not knowing what to do or expect or to target when they are there, and not understanding the importance of building in their own community before and after. This workshop will focus on four distinct elements within the music industry: creation of the song, presentation of the song, networking, and business. In each category, Marc will show by doing, diagramming, and explaining the craft of music and the business to help you and your songs stand out.

About Marc-Allen Barnette
A professional songwriter, artist, and teacher based out of Nashville, Marc has had songs recorded by Grammy Award Winner Shelby Lynne; hit artists like John Berry, and country legends like David Ball. His song, “Too Much Blood in My Alcohol Level” charted in the first part of this decade.

As a performer, he has appeared in concert with such artists as the Charlie Daniels Band, Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Patty Loveless, Vince Gill, and Garth Brooks. A 25 year member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, Marc has mentored hundreds of artists and writers, and has participated in Tin Pan South Festival’s ‘Spring Training’ program and was among the developers of the their famous ‘Songposium’ weekly series of fall songwriting and music business classes.

Songwriter Mentor Sessions
Marc will also be holding one-on-one songwriting sessions with local songwriters on the afternoons of January 22 and 23 in one-hour time slots. Potential applicants are encouraged to bring a partially completed composition as a starting point.

Please note: You must be registered for the workshop and be a Manitoba Music member in order to take part in the songwriting mentor sessions.

If you wish to have a chance to work on a song with a seasoned pro, please provide a link to your Manitoba Music profile (updated with current music, bio, etc) to roland@manitobamusic.com.
